Modern research has shown the ability of Cissus to speed up bone healing by acting as a glucocorticoid receptor antagonist. Cissus' tendon and ligament strength support is extremely valuable to rugby players and explosive athletes. The anti-inflammatory and pain relief properties of Cissus are backed up by anecdotal evidence of athletes with serious shoulder, elbow and knee injuries being able to train again at full capacity. Cissus has the ability to increase testosterone levels through limiting cortisol production. Abdominal fat is often associated with high cortisol levels and many users report fat loss when using cissus and a calorie controlled diet.
